The Miller, His Son, and Their Ass was published by Incline Press in 2006. It is my re-telling of Aesop's classic fable in which a Miller foolishly attempts to follow everyone's advice regarding how he should get his ass to market, with disastrous results. It is a large format book illustrated with eight square black and white linocuts, ten vignette illustrations, and two further vignette illustrations to the front and back covers. It is illustrated in a style indebted to the woodcuts of Durer, and the paintings of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, as I felt a medieval setting would suit the story. The edition was limited to 160 copies and sold out within a few months, but books are occasionally available through Abebooks.
